Juvenile Intake and Assessment for the Third Judicial District

Need for the Program: In 2005, 2039 youth were taken into custody by law enforcement. The youth comprised of juvenile offenders and children in need of care.

Program Goal: Ensure only those children and youth needing protection or prosecution enter the child welfare or juvenile justice system.

Services Provided: Juvenile Intake and Assessment is the twenty-four hour, seven day a week response to children and youth taken into custody by law enforcement. In District 03, Juvenile Intake is part of a continuum of services at the KCSL Family Resource Center, including a multi-agency county wide intake.

The combined County-Wide Intake’s gate-keeping activities ensure that only those children and youth needing protection or prosecution enter the child welfare system or juvenile justice system. All other children and youth are provided services to address their needs within the community and returned to the least restrictive environment available.

Juvenile Intake assists juveniles and their families with present crises and ensures that each child and family has complete access to the full range of community services as identified through the Intake process.
